KNX Products: Light Actuators
Controlling lighting systems of a building, it is one of the most energy consuming systems (second after the air conditioning), so that the KNX lighting control actuators help to achieve LEED strategies thanks to its efficient control.
The main objectives to be achieved by this control are, have the system each active zone lights only when necessary (time control, presence) and manage intensity depending on the natural light available in the building.
The range of KNX actuators for lighting control is very broad, and is specialized in different types of load connected and (fluorescent, LED, ...) power as well as the ability to control the intensity of it ahead of to get very precise control of light regulation.
Individual control of each fixture as well as the allocation of lighting groups belonging to the same area, allows the flexibility to changes in areas within a building without having to modify the installation, reprogramming the system only for its new layout. This is possible thanks to specialized lighting control protocols such as DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) or DMX (Digital MultipleX) that can be integrated with KNX.
Other proprietary control systems specialist on lighting control as Lutron, are also possible to integrate KNX control through gateways that exist within vast range of KNX products.

A.1. Maintain site lighting to prevent light pollution

Savings from lighting according to requirements
KNX Light Actuators can control large groups of lights, either directly or by integrating the DALI standard, which enables the regulation of LED and fluorescent lights. The control can limit the maximum power values, as well as grouping the lights in lighting scenes. It also enables the use of astronomical clocks and conventional clocks to programme the on and/or off times, avoiding unnecessary consumption and light pollution associated with direct glazing in buildings exposed to the outside.

E.5. Give occupants lighting control
Avoiding the use of lighting in empty rooms implies saving a considerable amount of energy
The variety of types of lights in a building is not a problem for the control system, as there are in the market KNX light actuators and dimmers, for each type of charge, whether fluorescent, halogen, LED, ...
Actuators, dimmers and RGB ballasts enable the control of each light from the control system, either directly or by means of gateways to specialised control protocols: DALI or DMX (Digital Multiplex).
The lighting control system is always in the user's hands: they can, for example, switch on, switch off and adjust the intensity and colour, activate and block unwanted automatic behaviours for an estimated time.
E.7. Daylighting
Using the adequate and necessary amount of light helps to reduce lighting-related energy expenditure, which is usually quite high
As already indicated in strategy E.5, there are a great variety of actuators and light dimmers, particularly in KNX, for each type of load (fluorescent, halogen or LED, among others). Should one want to carry out a system of constant light regulation, the light intensity of the load (dimmers) must be adjustable in order to bring the light intensity to the right balance making the most of natural light.
